To-infinitive

  • After a noun, you can use the preposition to be followed by the infinitive (the base form of the verb) to show purpose or intention:

the board’s decision to increase funding…

  • You commonly use them with certain nouns:

of time: time to begin

of place: a great spot to have a picnic

of manner: the best way to explain it

of quantity: a lot to take in
