When to use the definite article (the)
- With both countable and uncountable nouns
- When there is no doubt what you are referring to
- Also to specify what you are talking about (the noun may then be followed by a prepositional phrase or an adjective clause):
The bag in my car (the + noun + prepositional phrase)
The bag that I left in my car (the + noun + adjective clause)
