Fixing sentence problems
Run on sentences and comma splices
- A run-on sentence occurs when you join two or more independent clauses without using any punctuation or a conjunction.
- A comma splice occurs when you join two or more independent clauses but use a comma instead of a semi-colon or a coordinating conjunction.
Instead:
- Join the sentences with a semi-colon(;) or full stop, or
- Use a co-ordinating conjunction (and, so) after a comma.
