Compound sentences
Conjunctive adverbs
They allow you to join two independent ideas of equal importance. They also allow you to show that the two ideas are related in a specific way.
- To punctuate, you need a semi-colon (;) or a full stop (.) after the first clause, and a comma after the conjunctive adverb, depending on whether you want 1 sentence or 2:
The bus service here is erratic; therefore, you have to use your own transport. (one sentence: relationship = reason + result)
The bus service here is erratic. Therefore, you have to use your own transport. (two sentences: relationship = reason + result)
