Describing a Scatterplot
The above scatterplot has:
- a linear form (looks to have points scattered around a straight line);
- a positive association (the as \(x\) values increase \(y\) values also increase);
- small scatter (the points are scattered close to the line).
Drawn on the graph is the line of best fit (or the linear model) to allow predictions to be made about true speed based on a speedometer reading.
