Direct quotations
- Direct quotations communicate the exact words used by someone else.
- You must be accurate when using a direct quotation.
- You must copy any mistakes or misprints. Use [sic] to indicate this:
Jones (2010) reported that: ‘Scores of children were afected [sic] by the decision’.
- You should check the relevant referencing style guide for example, APA or Harvard AGPS, to see how to punctuate direct quotations.
