UniSQ's innovative contemporary music program caters for your individual interests and aspirations, and allows you to become a versatile musician with many career options. 

Our music degrees centre around collaboration, and allow you the freedom to contribute as a vocalist, instrumentalist, songwriter/producer or any combination of these.

You will develop your skills through making music with your fellow students in ensembles. These ensembles are central to our practice and regularly showcased, giving you many performance opportunities and great practical experience. UniSQ music students enjoy plenty of opportunities to perform, record and create new works, as our lecturers focus on you as an individual and your unique needs. 

Our music theory and history courses also have a strong emphasis on applying theory in practice.

What are my career prospects with a music degree?

If you’re a music enthusiast, a music degree is an excellent way to explore your passion for music and further your knowledge of composition, music theory and performance. Studying music can also be an enriching experience for those with some music knowledge or training. With a music degree in the Visual and Performing Arts sector, you will learn to refine your skills to meet the evolving needs of a contemporary musician.

After a degree for musicians? A Bachelor of Music (Music Practice) will see you explore collaborative music making, live and digital performance and songwriting and composition, while the Bachelor of Music (Musical Communication) explores musical cultures and relevant theoretical concepts. The Bachelor of Music engages technologies in recording and production so you can learn to meet the demands of today’s music industry. You will be prepared for a career as a performer, singer-songwriter, studio or classroom music teacher, music studio owner/operator, commercial songwriter or music journalist.

Studying music doesn’t only spark your creativity; it also allows you to give back to the community. Combine your love for music with social work by studying music with a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Community Wellbeing (Music). This degree for musicians will expand your creativity, facilitation and leadership skills so you can collaborate with health providers, local governments and community organisations for arts-led service initiatives. From youth to Indigenous, aged, refugee, homeless, unemployed or disability services, the options for applying your talents and abilities to an important cause are endless. Continue your studies with a Bachelor of Create Arts (Honours) (Music) or further research to give yourself the edge you need to succeed in the music industry.
