  • A double degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws gives you an edge when applying for jobs as a community lawyer, legal officer, barrister or solicitor. When combined with a major in History, International Relations, or Social Justice, this double degree enables you to follow your passion and pursue a range of employment.
  • By completing a double degree, your opportunities for employment will expand and you will graduate sooner than if you were to complete two separate degrees.
  • The different areas of law you will explore throughout the degree include criminal law, legal conflict and resolution and legal professional practice and ethics. This is then combined with an Arts major of your choice, including Anthropology and Archaeology, Creative and Critical Writing, English Literature, Journalism, International Relations, History, and Contemporary Media.
  • When graduating with a double degree, you will receive a separate testamur (official certificate) for each degree.

Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Laws has been accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, Queensland, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland as an approved academic qualification under the Supreme Court (Legal Practitioner Admission) Rules 2004 (Qld). This will partially satisfy the requirements to practise as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland, or as a legal practitioner elsewhere in Australia. Intending solicitors and barristers must also complete an approved practical legal training course in order to become admitted to practise law. Career opportunities through this double degree may include private practice solicitor or barrister, government departments, non-government agencies, legal organisations, journalist, public relations practitioner, media companies or as a communications consultant.

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C)

Tafe (VET) qualification

If you have completed a qualification from a TAFE or qualified private provider, you may be able to use these qualifications to meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

You may be able to use your work experience and other adjustment factors to increase your selection rank and meet UniSQ's entry requirements.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Please note we cannot award credit within the Bachelor of Laws on the basis of work experience due to the professional accreditation requirements.
