Our Bachelor of General Studies is for anyone wanting to benefit from a wide choice of study areas. This degree is ideal for those who may have left school, but want to sample a range of university subjects before starting a more specialised degree.

You will study courses chosen from a mix of humanities, social science, biological sciences, physical sciences, environment and sustainability, business/commerce, engineering and spatial science and can use your studies to transfer to another degree if/when you choose a specialisation.

General Studies can lead to any career enhanced by a tertiary qualification.

** You will need to consult the Program Coordinator in planning your course selections to gain approval for your study plan. The 20 units can be taken from all course levels, but you cannot take more than eight (8) extra level 1 courses in addition to the core courses. At least four (4) level 3 courses must be selected.

Entry requirements

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • Depending on your area of interest, some majors or disciplines may require further assumed knowledge.

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to four semesters at high school level (Years 11 and 12) with sound achievement (4, SA). Find your country's level of qualification and minimum entry requirements for this program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
