Graduate Certificate of Education (Special Education)
Extend your specialist knowledge
USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Education (Special Education) extends your specialist knowledge, experience and skills working with students with learning difficulties. You will have the opportunity to study in the areas of behaviour management, Autism Spectrum Disorder and teaching students with high support needs.
After completing the Graduate Certificate of Education (Special Education) with a minimum GPA of 4.0, you will have the option to take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Master of Education (Special Education).
If you do not achieve a GPA of 4.0, you may have the option to continue your studies with a Graduate Diploma of Education (Special Education) before moving on to a Master of Education (Special Education) (provided other program entry requirements are met).
Note: This program does not qualify you for teacher registration in Queensland. To qualify for teacher registration in Queensland, please refer to the Master of Learning and Teaching.
Do you want to work in a special school or in a regular classroom? With groups of students or on an individual basis? Graduates of the Graduate Certificate of Education (Special Education) will have the skills to lead educators successfully in special education or the disabilities sector. Career opportunities also exist in training related fields, human services and community-based government organisations.

Loan to help you pay your fees
You may not have to pay your course (subject) fees upfront. FEE-HELP allows you to defer your fees until your income reaches a certain level.
You may also be eligible to receive financial support from Centrelink.
Scholarships and financial assistance
You may be able to apply for scholarships to help with your study costs.
- 3-year bachelor degree from an Australian university or equivalent.
English Language Requirements
You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.
