USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Engineering Science (Structural Engineering) is ideal if you have a three year engineering degree and you want to extend your knowledge in structural engineering. You don’t even need work experience to commence your postgraduate studies in this degree.

If you studied your undergraduate degree in a different area of engineering, this degree will allow you to change your career path and specialise in structural engineering.

Through this four unit degree, you will study advanced level structural engineering, empowering you to design, construct and maintain structures against the forces of nature and stresses of the modern environment.

Further study

When you complete your Graduate Certificate of Engineering Science you could take the credit from your studies and go on to complete the Graduate Diploma of Engineering Science.  You could even go on to complete the Master of Engineering Science where you will have the opportunity to do a research project and dissertation to apply your formal knowledge to a real world issue.

Professional accreditation

The Graduate Certificate of Engineering Science is not accredited by any professional bodies other than the University of Southern Queensland. It does however provide a pathway to the Master of Engineering Science which is provisionally accredited with Engineers Australia for membership as a graduate Professional Engineer.

As a structural engineering graduate, you could work in research, design, construction, operation and maintenance of projects. You experience could land you a job in major construction projects, including buildings, towers, bridges, dams and tunnels.

Entry Requirements

  • Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in the relevant specialisation, or equivalent.
    or
  • Australian university four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in a non-related specialisation, or equivalent.

English Language Requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.
