USQ Year 11 Scholarships

The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is pleased to offer year 11 high school students studying a VET Certificate III, the opportunity to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.

If you are currently in year 11 and your family is experiencing financial hardship, studying a VET Certificate III (or above) and not studying towards and ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) you maybe are eligible to apply for a Year 11 scholarship to support you to complete your studies during year 12. This scholarship is funded through USQ’s Higher Education Participation and Partnership Program (HEPPP) Scholarship.

Information for School Principals

Schools must ensure that students meet all the following eligibility requirements before lodging the application on behalf of the student:

  1. The student is currently experiencing financial hardship
  2. The student will likely complete their QCE by Year 12 graduation
  3. The student demonstrates a willingness to fully participate in the life of the school and be a worthy role model of behaviour for other students
  4. The student demonstrates consistent attendance at school, with an attendance rate of at least 90% (Exceptional or extenuating circumstances should be considered such as illness, disability, and cultural requirements)

Schools will be responsible for ensuring that the successful scholarship recipient’s continual adherence to the above requirements. The school and family must ensure that all expenditure is within the expenditure guidelines. Please see below evidence of financial hardship may include the following:

  • Centrelink income statements
  • Healthcare card
  • Family Tax Benefit statement
  • Australian Tax Office Notices of Assessment
  • Most recent bank statements and payslips.

Before applying for the USQ Year 11 Scholarship, your school principal must confirm that they are aware of the school’s responsibilities, student eligibility criteria, the endorsement process, and the limitations of funding as listed below.

It is proposed that the following entry requirements are placed on the application to apply for a scholarship:

  1. An Australian citizen and resident of Queensland
  2. Be currently enrolled and demonstrating consistent attendance at a Queensland school with an attendance rate of 90% or more
  3. Be currently enrolled in a Certificate III course or higher
  4. Be currently enrolled in English and Maths
  5. Intends to undertake and complete his/her Queensland Certificate of Education during the school year 2021 and has the ability and the school's confidence of fully completing their QCE by Year 12 graduation
  6. Monitoring of scholarship recipient’s continual adherence to the scholarship conditions
  7. Demonstrates willingness to fully participate in the life of the school and be a worthy role model of behaviour for other students  

Information for Students

Students must meet all the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Principal’s endorsement to complete the application process
  2. Be an Australian citizen and resident of Queensland
  3. Be currently enrolled in a Certificate III course or higher
  4. Be currently enrolled in English and Maths
  5. Intention to complete your Queensland Certificate of Education during the school year 2021.
  6. Attend a panel interview (in person or online), if required.

Application Process

High School students in year 11 would need to submit an application and additional documentation to receive a scholarship:

  1. Application form
  2. Latest report card
  3. Personal statement – the benefits of receiving a scholarship and why they would like to study higher education
  4. Resume

All Applications, together with the Principals Approval must be submitted by the school on behalf of the student to futurestudents@usq.edu.au, before Friday 16 October 2020.

Expenditure Guidelines

#IT device purchase terms and conditions:

Schools, students and their parents / carers need to be aware that USQ:

  • The device is approved by the school and necessary to enable the student to complete curriculum activities.
  • Will not fund repairs, damage or replacement of these IT devices and will not contribute to any costs associated with this.
  • Directs that any IT devices hired or purchased are for the exclusive use of the individual USQ Year 11 Scholarship, remain the property and responsibility of the student.
  • Is not responsible for either the inappropriate or the illegal use of these IT devices.
  • Supports that all school rules, appropriate usage guidelines and school agreements apply to USQ Year 11 Scholarship students just as they do to all other students.
