SarahJane: My name is SarahJane Robertson and I’m studying the Juris Doctor Program at Springfield Campus.
I did a lot of research before I started…you know to select what uni I was going to go to and USQ offered the face to face Juris Doctor Programs that was a big bonus for me and plus it had the highest rating of graduates gaining employment when they completed so that was another tick in the box. And the facilities as well were a really big drawcard because I didn’t have to pay expensive fees for parking, compete with the city traffic.
Before I undertook this course I was an Operational Police Officer with the New South Wales Police. And I was working with them for 11 years and I moved up and took on a position with Corrective Services and studying full-time as well.
Go to your lecturers and they give you lots of different suggestions of where you can go and try and get some work experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to get a placement down on the HMAS Kuttabul, which is the Navy base down in Sydney. And I’ll be doing a placement in their Prosecution Unit.
So these are just the opportunities that you wouldn’t get anywhere else. I would like to work with women’s advocacy in some way and military defence.
I do have a passion for women’s advocacy and I think I’ll end up working pro bono in that area.
