UniSQ Biennial Art Award

8 April – 17 May 2024
Curator: Brodie Taylor

The UniSQ Biennial Art Award is an exciting new addition to Australia’s art world. As a newly established national award, it aims to celebrate and champion contemporary Australian art. With a generous prize pool of $40 000, the UniSQ Art Award is set to attract talented artists from all corners of the country.

One of the primary goals of the UniSQ Art Award is to foster community engagement. The award aims to bring art to the public and encourage meaningful interactions between Australia’s contemporary artists and viewers. Through exhibitions and events, the award seeks to generate conversation and appreciation for art, enriching the cultural fabric of local communities. By collaborating with various institutions and experts, the award will also provide a network of support and opportunities for artists.

At the heart of this project is the promotion of mental well-being and social cohesion. Art has long been recognized as a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. The award will offer a lucrative platform for artists to explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences.

Launching in 2024, the UniSQ Art Award will not only provide recognition and financial support to talented artists, but also contribute to the University Art Collection. The winning artworks will be acquired by the university, adding to its diverse and vibrant collection. This acquisition benefits the artists by providing them with exposure and recognition, and future students, researchers, and art enthusiasts by enriching the valuable resource that is the UniSQ Art Collection.
