Jessica

From South Africa to UniSQ Australia
Jessica is sitting at an outdoor table with her laptop, smiling at the camera.

It was a passionate mindset for wanting to give back to communities that led Jessica into pursuing a study path in Public Relations. With her goal being to one day work in communications, campaigning and event organisation in the not-for-profit space.

Making the move from South Africa to Australia, Jessica was determined to create a solid foundation for her future and UniSQ was there to help. UniSQ's support staff and lecturers assisted her in feeling at ease while adjusting to the big change. UniSQ soon became her home away from home.

'Moving to a new country to continue my study journey was daunting to say the least. Stepping out of my comfort zone to embrace this big of a change didn’t come easily.'

Experiencing university from the international student perspective has given Jessica a new found appreciation for her choice in career path. Taking on these leadership roles at UniSQ, being a voice for student advocacy and volunteering for not-for-profit organisations such as Cancer Council Queensland has helped her discover her true passion and potential.
