Dropping a course

Before the census date

Courses dropped on or before the census date won't appear on your academic record and you won't be liable for the associated course fees or incur a HELP debt.

Census dates for each Study Period are published on the Important Dates page.

After the census date up to the last teaching day

Courses dropped after the census date up to the last teaching day of the study period will be allocated an administrative grade of WAP (Without Academic Penalty) and won't appear on your academic record, however you will still be liable for the associated course fees or HELP debt.

After the last teaching day

It's not possible to drop a course after the last teaching day of the study period.

For more information about withdrawal options after the last teaching day, please see the Special Circumstances section below.

Withdrawal after the last teaching day (Special Circumstances)

If you've experienced adverse, unexpected circumstances which occurred after the census date, and these circumstances have prevented you from undertaking the necessary study to successfully complete the requirements of the course, you may apply to have the course fees refunded or HELP debt remitted, and the academic penalty waived. The circumstances must be significant and beyond your control (i.e., not due to your own action or inaction) and must have occurred during the relevant study period.

Please note, you must have received a final grade for the course to apply. Learn more about the requirements for eligibility and how to apply.
