First Nations employees are entitled to ten (10) days paid and fifteen (15) days unpaid leave per calendar year for you to participate in cultural and ceremonial practices and responsibilities.

Employees of UniSQ have the flexibility of substituting the Australia Day public holiday for another day within the same calendar year.

UniSQ provides cultural training on First Nations cultural issues and practices, so that employees can foster an environment that acknowledges and respects the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and protocols.

Our progress as a result of the First Nations Strategic Workforce Framework 2024-2025 demonstrates our commitment toward improving cultural awareness and education.

Located at our Toowoomba campus is the Gumbi Gumbi Gardens which help us develop a better understanding of local Indigenous heritage, and acknowledge the culture and contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders make to our region.

The First Nations Employee Support Network provides you with the opportunity to meet and develop professional and personal relationships with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

Natural settings of our campuses provide a relaxed atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of working in the city.

We recognise the impact UniSQ have on Country and acknowledge that these lands always have, and always will be, places of teaching and learning.
