We have a range of opportunities available such as full-time, part-time, continuing, fixed term and casual. If you are looking for a short term casual opportunity with the University, we encourage you to submit your Expressions of Interest in either the Professional or Academic Opportunities.

Once you have found an advertised role you are interested in, make sure that you:

  • Read the job advertisement and position description to fully understand the role and the required skills, experiences and qualifications as well as appropriate required Australian work rights.
  • Consider your motivation for applying. Why are you interested in this role here at UniSQ?
  • If you have specific questions about the role, consider reaching out to the contact person who is listed in the advert.
  • Reflect on your qualifications, experience, and skills and whether they will enable you to successfully achieve the key responsibilities of the role.

What to include in your application

  • Updated Resume

    Your resume should never be just a task list of your employment history.  Rather, it should showcase your accomplishments, career growth and personal development.

    Tailor your resume to the role, making sure you highlight the skills and experiences relevant to the position. Focus on quantifiable achievements or accomplishments to demonstrate evidence of your successes, rather than a long list of duties.

    Ensure that your employment history information including employer, position titles and dates is as relevant as it can be. Ensure that your qualifications and professional memberships are clearly stated and accurate as this information will be checked and verified should your application progress.

    For academic positions, include your research interests and achievements, publications, courses taught and students supervised, and academic awards, medals or distinctions.

    Include extra-curricular, volunteering or community activities to show your diverse interests and skills beyond your day-to-day role.

  • Statement of Claim

    A statement of claim is intended to highlight your strengths, achievements and demonstrate how and why you would be a good fit for the role and UniSQ.

    A well written statement of claim will help us to:

    • Understand from the examples and work experience you provide, do you possess the appropriate qualifications, level of technical experience, and associated capabilities.
    • You should be able to identify in detail your key accomplishments that then align to the key requirements in the position description that are then and showcase through relevant, clear examples
    • Remember to focus on your comparable, transferable accomplishments and what your unique contribution might be.
    • Keep your statement to a maximum of two A4 pages

Ready to submit your application?

Now you are ready to submit your application, we suggest you ensure you have proof read your documents.

Applications will only be received by UniSQ through our Online Recruitment System. No applications will be considered that are directly emailed to People Services or Panel Chairs.

Please note that the system will time out after 2 hours of activity. Please ensure that you are using the save button option regularly.

  • Complete the application questions

    Enter your contact information, attach your resume/CV and your statement of claim. Check that your contact information is correct as this is how our team will be able to get in touch with you!

  • Contact details for your Professional referees

    UniSQ will ask you to provide the professional email contact for two referees as part of your application. One of these contacts is required to be your current supervisor.

    Please note that People Services will not contact your referees without your consent.

Once you hit 'submit' on your application, we will send you a confirmation email.

 

Once we receive your application, our selection panel will review your information and consider how your skills and experience align and match the job's key responsibilities and requirements. Once the advertising closes our panels will convene and decide who will progress to interview.

The People Services team intend to contact you as soon as possible (via phone or email) to inform you if we are progressing with your application to the next stage of our recruitment process.

Once the panel has reviewed your application a decision will be made if your application will progress or may be deemed unsuccessful on this occasion.

If your application is progressing, we will make contact via phone with details of the interview or send an email for you to self-schedule an interview time.

We do prefer to meet face to face, so you gain a good sense of campus life however we do understand this may not always be possible, so based on your location and that of the panel, we may suggest a virtual alternative. are open to virtual interactions.

Selection Panel

Our People Services team will advise you of the representatives from UniSQ on our selection panels upon confirmation of your interview. 

Our panels typically consist of:

  • The panel chair (often the hiring manager / supervisor or a relevant nominee
  • Panel members can be representatives from other business areas of our university.
  • Additionally, panel members who may be external to the University as representatives from our broader communities

 

Preparing for your interview

  • Be clear and articulate about what you believe are your key strengths and how they would resonate with the role. We want to hear how these strengths, experience, accomplishments, and career goals will enable you to succeed at UniSQ.
  • Review the position description and job advertisement prior to your interview so that you are clear on what you’re expected to achieve should you be successful.
  • Prepare questions that you might like to ask . These could be about the role, the team, the culture or UniSQ in general.
  • If you are meeting us in person make sure your know where you need to be. Our People Services team will provide you with a campus map to help with finding the location and where to find parking.

 

It is interview day!

During your interview you could expect to be asked questions that relate to the following:

  • Your reasons or motivation for applying.
  • Your professional experience and technical expertise which are relevant to the role.
  • Scenario and behavioural based questions, that provide the panel with detailed information on how you have managed situations in the past or how your thinking applies to your approach to undertake something you haven’t done before.
  • You may also be asked to prepare a presentation or practical pieces of work. The People Services team will provide you with the full details of what the panel would like you to prepare to bring with you to discuss on the day.
  • As we are a values-based organisation, we might also ask questions about what these values mean to you.

Our checks

  • Confirmation of your identity
  • Professional Reference checks – one of which should be a current supervisor
  • Verification of qualifications and/or professional body accreditations/ registrations that you have listed on your application.
  • Confirmation of previous employment for the last 5 years
  • Criminal history check (if applicable)
  • Blue Cards (if applicable)

 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified roles

These roles are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These positions are to due to a a genuine occupational requirement that is to  be filled by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

Positions that are identified in line with UniSQ’s First Nations Strategic Workforce Framework, which aims to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees in all areas of the University. For this position, it is an equal opportunity measure that applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent as per section 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991) and section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth).

Candidates being considered for these roles will need

  • a signed statutory declaration by the applicant and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace (JP) stating that the applicant is, and identifies as, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; or
  • a written reference (on letterhead and signed) from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation stating that the applicant is, and identifies as, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; or
  • a certified copy of the applicant’s Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Status that has been issued by an incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation and stamped with the Organisation’s Common Seal.

 

Will be made by a member of the People Services team followed by a written employment contract.

  • How long will the recruitment process take?
    As every recruitment activity is unique in nature, there is no definite timeline to provide as to when we will contact you. The length of our selection process will vary, depending on the position, availability of panel members and number of applications. However, we aim to keep you informed about the progress of your application as much as possible. You will receive a confirmation email when we have received your application, and all unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.
  • I am not an Australian citizen, can I apply?
    All employees working in Australia must either be permanent residents or have a valid work visa to cover the period of employment. UniSQ may consider and choose to offer sponsorship to overseas candidates depending on the role and candidate eligibility.

    Offers of employment to overseas applicants are subject to the Department of Home Affairs, stringent guidelines and subsequent granting approval for candidate consideration for permanent residency or an appropriate temporary work visa to cover the period of employment. As a candidate we encourage you to familiarise yourself with the Australian immigration requirements as early as possible.
