  • When you think that what you are saying is important, use adverbs like significantly, crucially, or especially
  • These adverbs are usually (but not always) placed at the beginning of a sentence, followed by a comma:

Significantly, Smith (2003) shows that none of the samples proved… 

Crucially, respondents had been interviewed on two previous occasions…
