The passive voice

How to form the present simple passive

  • You write the present simple passive voice by using the present tense of the verb ‘to be’ (am, are, is) plus the past participle of the main verb:

The player kicks the ball. (active voice, present simple)

The ball is kicked by the player. (passive voice, present simple of ‘to be’ + past participle of ‘to kick’)

Note:

The tense of the verb is shown by the form of the verb ‘to be’, not the past participle (-ed)
